Ok so there’s an issue that some HTC Rezound owners are experiencing that involves the phone getting stuck in an infinite boot loop and I wanted to share my solution.
Here’s the issue: once you turn off the phone…when you turn it back on, the phone will turn on, look like it’s going to boot up, but once it gets to the homescreen it will turn off by itself and turn on again…and then repeat…this is the infinite boot loop.
I experienced this for the first time today, and did a little research on how to get out of it…
Here’s what worked for me…
1. take off the back cover
2. take out the battery
3. remove the 4G SIM card (and leave it out)
4. put the battery back in
5. turn on the phone (it should boot fine, with the exception of it saying there is no SIM card inserted…this is fine, just ignore this for now)
6. from the homescreen…hit menu > settings > wireless and networks > mobile networks > network mode > select LTE/CDMA
7. turn off the phone
8. take off the back cover
9. take out the battery
10. re-insert the 4G SIM card
11. put the battery back in
12. turn on the phone
So what’s causing this and how to prevent it?
Well for me, this problem was associated with me switching on/off the 4G LTE (I do this to save battery…I only turn 4G on when doing data heavy tasks). There seems to be a problem when you turn off 4G LTE, which puts you in “CDMA only” mode, and then you turn off the phone…because when you turn the phone back on, the 4G SIM card needs to have the 4G LTE enabled, otherwise you get stuck in a boot loop for some reason.
*From my research it seems like HTC and Verizon are both aware of the problem and there is a software upgrade scheduled to be released soon to remedy the issue…until then, make sure 4G is enabled before you power down.

This happened to me a few weeks ago and again a few days ago. Verizon told me there were no known issues with the Rezound. Both times I had to do a factory reset. I’ll try this next time. Thanks!

So now that I’ve done this, my phone says that it has no SIM card, even though I have reinserted it. Any suggestions?
Posted by yukisays on April 11, 2012 at 7:39 am
hey brooks,
did you double check and make sure the SIM was inserted the correct way? try flipping it around and that should hopefully fix it.

Will leaving LTE/CDMA selected affect the phone in any way, such as affecting your 3G/4G capabilities? Also, by selecting LTE/CDMA, will there be no more infinite boot loop? Thanks!
Posted by yukisays on April 26, 2012 at 11:35 pm
hey thanks for the question. yes, it will affect your 3g/4g. when you select LTE, then your phone will use a 4g connection when available. when it’s just on CDMA, then your phone is limited to 3g. i’m not advising that you have to leave it on one or the other, because you can use either one you want. however, if your phone gets stuck in a boot loop, then that’s when i’d follow these instructions

Thanks so much! I definitely was freaking out when my phone kept rebooting, this worked like a charm!

Thank you, you saved me so much time and frustration! Could you please add a post to this page when HTC has an update that includes this fix? Thanks again!
Posted by yukisays on June 3, 2012 at 4:09 pm
sure I’ll update the post if i hear anything. i did receive an update a few months ago, and i haven’t gotten stuck in an infinite boot loop since then. i’m not sure if the update was directly addressing the problem…could just be a coincidence. but like i said, if i hear anything concrete, i’ll post it.

Posted by yukisays on June 3, 2012 at 4:06 pm
hello! your 4g and wifi aren’t working, but is your 3g data working at all or is all your data not working?

this happened to me today, so they must not have released a proper fix for it yet. thanks for your help!!

Also, I found that once I put the sim card back in, the settings automatically switched back to “CDMA only” despite following your directions. I just had to hurry and switch it before it froze and reboot again.

You are a life saver. On a trip out of town with my family and needed the phone when it started the loop. Fortunately, looked online and found this post. Thanks so much for the info. Steve

Mine did this again today. Sometimes it’ll fix itself, but this time it wasnt. Went to Verizon store and rep put in new battery and sim card, still no luck. She then said she would do a factory reset and I said that’s not an option. So I googled the issue myself, and here I am. Thanks a lot. Now I’ll know what to do next time.

Awesome advice! I use my phone for work and was freaking out. Thank you so much!

Alright well, this worked for a little while after I put the battery back in and turned the phone on… I even received text messages from seven people that had been sent during the last three days. However, after about ten minutes (I checked the network settings, and it still said LTE/CDMA… and the connect to mobile network box was not checked, so I checked the box) the phone still restarted itself with the reboot…
So I try to do this whole thing once again, and after taking out the SIM card, turning the phone on, the network settings was put back to CDMA only, with no option for the mobile network box. I switched this to LTE/CDMA again before taking out the battery and restarting the phone with the SIM card in… now again, after all that a second time, after the SIM card is in I check the network settings and it reset itself back to CDMA only!! So I now switch this to LTE/CDMA, and turn on the mobile network, after five minutes it restarts and reboots itself AGAIN.
Sorry but this did not fix my problem, unless I’m severely missing something here…

I wish I had read this before taking my phone to Verizon and having to wait a WEEK for them to ship me a ‘new’ (it turned out to be a refurbished one), working phone. Sadness.
