Sprint has been charging its 4G users a $10 premium data charge from the beginning. However, starting Jan. 30th, the NOW network is NOW going to be assessing that extra $10 charge to all smartphones using the 3G network as well.
People currently under contract won’t have that additional charge until they renew or activate a new device.
If you were going to go with a 4G phone anyway, then this won’t make any difference in cost for you. But if you didn’t care about having the fastest speeds and just wanted to use a smartphone on 3G (like my parents), well now you’re paying for something extra that you can’t even use.
