How To Download Files WHERE YOU WANT On Macs

On Windows PCs, anytime you download something from the internet, the computer asks you where you want to download it to.

Macs on the other hand are set to automatically download files to a “downloads” folder.  I get a lot of complaints about this from Mac users because this creates double work for them.  They have to 1st download the file to the “downloads” folder, and then 2nd open the “downloads” folder, and  then 3rd move the file to the location that they want it.

If you are one of these people who are also annoyed by this setting, then here’s a solution for you if you use Chrome or Firefox as your browser.

Chrome users
1.  Open your browser (ex. Chrome)
2.  Click on “Chrome” in the upper left (next to the little Apple icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen)
3.  Click on “Preferences”
4a.  It will open the screen you see above.
4b.  Click on “Under the Hood”
4c.  Click on the checkbox for “Ask where to save each file before downloading”

Firefox users (pretty much the same thing)
1.  Open your browser (ex. Chrome)
2.  Click on “Chrome” in the upper left (next to the little Apple icon in the menu bar at the top of the screen)
3.  Click on “Preferences”
4a.  It will open the screen you see above.
4b.  Click on “General”
4c.  Click on the checkbox for “Always ask me where to save files”

Hope that relieves some stress for you!
